Steven B. Engle , Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive
Officer, joined the Company in 1993 as Executive Vice President
and Chief Operating Officer. He assumed the offices of President,
Director and Secretary in 1994, became Chief Executive Officer
in 1995, and Chairman of the Board in 1997. From 1991 to
1993, Mr. Engle served as Vice President of Marketing at
Cygnus Inc., a publicly held company that develops drug-delivery
systems for therapeutic drugs, including Nicotrol®,
a smoking cessation transdermal patch. From 1987 to 1991,
he was Chief Executive Officer of Quantum Management Company,
a privately held management consulting firm serving pharmaceutical
and other industries. From 1984 to 1987, he was Vice President
of Marketing and Divisional General Manager for Micro Power
Systems, Inc., a privately held company that manufactures
high technology products, including medical devices. From
1979 to 1984, he was a management consultant at Strategic
Decisions Group and SRI International, where he advised
pharmaceutical, high technology and other companies. Mr.
Engle is a former Chairman of BIOCOM, a regional trade association
for the biotechnology and medical devices industries. Mr.
Engle holds an M.S.E.E. and a B.S.E.E. with a focus in biomedical
engineering from the University of Texas.

Matthew D. Linnik, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer, Executive
Vice President of Research, and Assistant Secretary, joined
the Company in 1998 as Director of Research and Development,
was promoted to Vice President of Research in February 1999,
to Executive Vice President of Research in June 1999 and
to Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Vice President
of Research in 2002. He was appointed Assistant Secretary
in 1999. Prior to joining the Company, from 1989 to 1998,
Dr. Linnik served as Senior Pharmacologist, Scientist, Research
Scientist and Project Leader for Hoechst Marion Roussel,
formerly Marion Merrell Dow and Marion Laboratories, a publicly
held pharmaceutical company. From 1996 to 1998, he also
served as Adjunct Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at
the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. From 1986
to 1988, he served as Postdoctoral Fellow, then Instructor,
in the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Massachusetts
General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Linnik
holds a B.A. in Physiology from Southern Illinois University
and a Ph.D. in Physiology and Pharmacology from Southern
Illinois University School of Medicine.

Bruce K. Bennett, Jr., Vice President of Manufacturing,
joined the Company in January 2002. Prior to joining the
Company, from 2000 to 2001, Mr. Bennett was Vice President
of Operations at Provasis Therapeutics, Inc., a privately
held medical device company. From 1997 to 2000, he served
as Vice President of Operations, Regulatory Affairs/Quality
Assurance and Commercial Development at VIA Medical Corporation,
a privately held medical device company. From 1995 to 1996,
he was Vice President of Manufacturing at Mulay Plastic,
Inc., a privately held injection molding company. From 1992
to 1995, Mr. Bennett served as Vice President of Operations
at Cygnus Therapeutic Systems, Inc., a publicly held company
that develops drug-delivery systems for therapeutic drugs.
From 1989 to 1992, he was Vice President of Manufacturing
at Progress Lighting, a privately held manufacturer of decorative
lighting fixtures. From 1987 to 1989, he was Vice President
of Manufacturing at Sulzer Intermedics, Inc., a publicly
held medical device company. From 1986 to 1987, Mr. Bennett
served as Director of Manufacturing at Kendall Respiratory
Care, Inc., a medical device division of Kendall - a subsidiary
of Colgate-Palmolive Company. From 1979 to 1986, he was
Operations Director at Kendall McGaw Laboratories, a medical
device division of Kendall, and held several other positions.
Mr. Bennett holds a B.S. in Industrial Technology from the
California State University, Long Beach and an M.B.A. from
Pepperdine University.

Josefina Elchico

Josefina "Jessie" Elchico joined the Company
in October 2004. Since 2002, Ms. Elchico was a consultant
with Jeff Yuen and Associates where she worked with biopharmaceutical
companies in implementing quality systems worldwide, validating
facilities, processes and systems, conducting audits, preparing
for pre-approval inspections and supporting regulatory submissions.
Previous to consulting, she was Vice President, Quality
Assurance, for the BioPharmaceutical Division at Chiron
Corporation where she was responsible for the Quality Assurance
and Regulatory Compliance functions for facilities in the
U.S. and Europe. While at Chiron, Jessie managed regulatory
inspections resulting in the worldwide product licensure
of Proleukin, Betaseron, Becaplermin, MenC, DepoCyt, MedImmune's
Synagis, and the HCV 3.0 blood test. Prior to Chiron, Jessie
held a series of quality management positions at Cetus Corporation
and at the Lancer Division of Sherwood Medical, a subsidiary
of American Home Products. Jessie received her B.S. in Medical
Technology from the University of San Agustin, Philippines
and completed an internship in medical technology at St
Peters General Hospital, New Brunswick, New Jersey.
She is a licensed Medical Technologist and a member of the
Parenteral Drug Association and the American Society for
Clinical Pathologists.

Paul C. Jenn, Ph.D., Vice President of Product Development,
joined the Company in 1994 as Associate Director of Production
and Process Development. Dr. Jenn was promoted to Director
of Operations in 1999, Senior Director of Operations in
2000, Vice President of Operations in 2001, and Vice President
of Product Development in 2002. Prior to joining the Company,
from 1992 to 1994, Dr. Jenn was Director of Peptide Manufacturing
at Telios Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a publicly held pharmaceutical
company, and held several other positions. From 1988 to
1992, he served as Senior Research Associate at Mallinckrodt
Specialty Chemicals, a publicly held specialty chemical
company. From 1984 to 1988, Dr. Jenn served as a Research
Scientist at International Minerals and Chemical Corp.,
a public chemical company. From 1982 to 1984, he performed
his post-doctoral research at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory
at the University of California at Berkley. Dr. Jenn holds
a B.S. in Chemistry from Fu-Jen Catholic University, Taipei,
Taiwan and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from State University of
New York at Buffalo.

Teddi Reilly

Theodora Reilly, Vice President of Human Resources, joined
the Company in 1998 as Director of Human Resources and was
promoted to Vice President of Human Resources in 2001. Prior
to joining the Company, from 1997 to 1998, Ms. Reilly was
Director of Human Resources at ThermoLase Corporation, a
public subsidiary of Thermo Electron Corporation, which
developed laser-based systems for laser-based skin resurfacing.
From 1994 to 1997, Ms. Reilly served as Director of Human
Resources at Solectek Corporation, a privately held high
tech manufacturer of wireless interconnectivity products.
Ms. Reilly received a B.S. in Psychology from the Christian
Bible College and Seminary located in Independence, Missouri.

Gail A. Sloan, CPA
Vice President of Finance and Secretary

Gail A. Sloan, CPA, Vice President of Finance and Secretary,
joined the Company in 1996 as Assistant Controller and was
promoted to Controller in 1997, Senior Director of Finance
in 2002, and Vice President of Finance in 2004. She was
appointed Secretary in 1999. Prior to joining the
Company, Ms. Sloan held positions with Affymax Research
Institute and Ernst & Young, LLP. Ms. Sloan holds a
B.S. in Business Administration from California Polytechnic
State University at San Luis Obispo and is a Certified Public
Accountant.

Andrew Wiseman, Ph.D., Senior Director of Business Development
and Investor Relations, joined the Company in May 1989 as
Director of Business Development and was one of the Company's
original founders. Dr. Wiseman has also served as head of
investor relations since 1994. From 1983 to 1989, Dr. Wiseman
held several positions with Quidel Corporation, a publicly
held manufacturer of diagnostic tests, including Manager
of Business Development, Project Manager in Diagnostic Research
and Development, and Senior Research Scientist. Dr. Wiseman
was an Assistant Professor at the Medical Biology Institute
and an Assistant Member at the Scripps Clinic and Research
Foundation. He received a B.S. in Zoology and a Ph.D. in
Genetics from Duke University.

Dr. Adams, 60, has been a director of the Company since
1991. Dr. Adams is the founder and Chairman Emeritus of
Genta, Inc., a publicly held biotechnology company in the
field of antisense technology, and, since September 1998,
has been Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
of Leucadia Technologies, a privately held company in the
field of medical devices. Before assuming the role of Chairman
Emeritus of Genta, Inc. in 1997, Dr. Adams served as Genta,
Inc.'s Chief Executive Officer. Before founding Genta in
1989, Dr. Adams founded Gen-Probe, Inc. in 1984 and served
as its Chief Executive Officer and Chairman until its acquisition
by Chugai Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. in 1989. Before founding
Gen-Probe and until 1984, Dr. Adams was Senior Vice President
of Research and Development at Hybritech. Eli Lilly and
Co. later acquired Hybritech in 1986. Dr. Adams has also
held management positions at Technicon Instruments and the
Hyland Division of Baxter Travenol, and served as a Director
of Biosite Diagnostics, Inc., a publicly held medical research
firm, from 1989 to 1998. In addition, Dr. Adams currently
serves as a Director of Invitrogen, Inc., a publicly held
company that develops, manufactures and markets research
tools in kit form and other research products, and XiFin
Inc. and Bio-Mems, both private companies. Dr. Adams holds
a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California,
at Riverside.

Robert A. Fildes, Ph.D.

Robert A. Fildes, Ph.D., 64, has been a director of the
Company since 1991. Since January 1998, Dr. Fildes has served
as President of SB2, Inc., a privately held company which
licenses antibody technology. From June to December 1998,
Dr. Fildes served as Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic
Pharmaceuticals, a publicly held company in the field of
biotechnology. From 1993 until August 1997, Dr. Fildes was
the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Scotgen Biopharmaceuticals,
Inc., a privately held company in the field of human monoclonal
antibody technology. Scotgen Biopharmaceuticals filed for
Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection under the federal bankruptcy
laws in August of 1997. From 1990 to 1993, Dr. Fildes was
an independent consultant in the biopharmaceutical industry.
He was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Cetus
Corporation, a publicly held biotechnology company, from
1982 to 1990. From 1980 to 1982, Dr. Fildes was the President
of Biogen, Inc., a publicly held biopharmaceutical company,
and from 1975 to 1980, he was the Vice President of Operations
for the Industrial Division of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company.
Dr. Fildes is currently a director of Cytovax Biotechnologies,
Inc., a publicly held company that develops and commercializes
vaccines and therapeutic products for the prevention and
treatment of infectious diseases. Dr. Fildes holds a D.C.C.
degree in Microbial Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Biochemical
Genetics from the University of London.

Stephen M. Martin

Stephen M. Martin, 56, has been a director of the Company
since 2000. He currently serves as CEO Partner of Hi Tech
Partners, LLC, a consulting firm for executive management
of early stage technology businesses. He also serves as
Managing Partner of Merritt Capital Services, a firm that
assists entrepreneurs in finding venture capital. From January
1998 until June 2001, Mr. Martin served as Vice President
of Venture Opportunities for CIBA Vision Corporation, a
Novartis company engaged in the research, manufacture and
sale of contact lenses, lens care products and ophthalmic
pharmaceuticals, which he founded in 1980. From January
1995 to January 1998, Mr. Martin served as President of
CIBA Vision Corporation USA and from October 1990 until
January 1998, he served as President of CIBA Vision Ophthalmics-US,
the ophthalmic pharmaceutical division of CIBA Vision Corporation.
Mr. Martin served as a director of CareLinc Corporation,
a privately held developer of clinical information management
systems, from December 1997 to May 2000. Mr. Martin holds
six issued U.S. patents for his inventions and a number
of European patents. Mr. Martin holds a B.A. degree from
Wake Forest University and attended the Woodrow Wilson College
of Law.

Nader J. Naini, 39, has been a general partner with Frazier Healthcare Ventures since 1995, having joined the firm in 1992. Prior to joining Frazier Healthcare, Mr. Naini was with Goldman, Sachs & Co. Mr. Naini serves as the chairman of the board of Aspen Education Group and serves on the boards of CompHealth Group, Inc., Elder Health, Inc., Priority Air Express, ppoNEXT, and ZONARE Medical Systems, Inc., all of which are privately held companies. Mr. Naini holds a Masters in Business Administration from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in molecular biology from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Smith, 58, has been a director of the Company since
2004. Presently, Dr. Smith is the Chairman, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Guilford Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
He joined Guilford at its inception in 1993 and has since
led its growth into a fully integrated pharmaceutical company
with two marketed products and two products in Phase 3 clinical
trials. Prior to joining Guilford, Dr. Smith was Senior
Vice President of Business and Market Development at Centocor,
Inc., a publicly traded biotechnology company. Before joining
Centocor, he served on the faculty of the Department of
Medicine at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Dr. Smith received
his M.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo
in 1972 and trained in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins
Hospital from 1972 to 1975. He currently serves on the boards
of the Maryland Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,
the Greater Baltimore Committee and the Greater Baltimore
High Tech Council. Dr. Smith also serves as Chair of the
Advisory Council for the Institute of Basic Biomedical Sciences
at Johns Hopkins University and as a member of the Board
of Directors at Depomed, Inc. and Excigen, Inc.

Martin Sutter

Martin Sutter, 50, is one of the two founding managing directors of Essex Woodlands Health Ventures. Educated in chemical engineering and finance, he has more than 25 years of management experience in operations, marketing, finance and venture capital. He began his career in management consulting with Peat Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in 1977 and moved to Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. ("MEDC"), now Devon Energy Corporation, a public company traded on the New York Stock Exchange, where he held management positions overseeing various operating units. In 1984, he founded and managed The Woodlands Venture Capital Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MEDC, and The Woodlands Venture Partners, an independent venture capital partnership formed in 1988. During his tenure with both organizations, he founded a number of successful healthcare companies originating from various institutions of the Texas Medical Center. In 1994, Mr. Sutter merged his venture practice with Essex Venture Partners to form Essex Woodlands. Essex Woodlands manages six venture capital limited partnerships with capital in excess of $1 billion. He currently serves on the board of directors of LifeCell Corporation, a public company traded on Nasdaq, MicroMed Cardiovascular, Inc., a company traded on the over-the-counter bulletin board, and the following private companies: BioForm Medical, Inc., Confluent Surgical, Inc., Elusys Therapeutics, Inc., and Rinat Neuroscience Corporation. Mr. Sutter holds a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Houston.

James N. Topper, M.D., Ph.D.

James N. Topper, M.D., Ph.D., 43, is a general partner with Frazier Healthcare Ventures, having joined the firm in August 2003. Prior to joining Frazier Healthcare, he served as head of the cardiovascular research and development division of Millennium Pharmaceuticals and ran Millennium San Francisco (formerly COR Therapeutics). Prior to the merger of COR and Millennium in 2002, Dr. Topper served as the Vice President of Biology at COR and was responsible for managing all of its research activities beginning in 1999. Prior to joining COR, he served on the faculties of Harvard Medical School in 1997 and subsequently became an Assistant Professor of Medicine (cardiovascular) at Stanford University in July 1998. He continues to hold an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stanford University and as a Cardiology Consultant to the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Topper currently serves on the boards of Amicus Therapeutics, Inc., Arête Therapeutics, Inc., MacuSight, Inc. and Zelos Therapeutics, Inc., all of which are privately held companies. Dr. Topper holds a Doctor of Medicine and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Stanford University School of Medicine.

Frank E. Young, M.D., Ph.D.

Frank E. Young, M.D., Ph.D., 74, is a former commissioner of the FDA and has had over a 40-year career in medicine, academia and government. After numerous academic appointments, Dr. Young served as Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Professor of Microbiology, Pathology, Radiation Biology and Biophysics at the University of Rochester, New York. Subsequently, he became Dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Director of the Medical Center and Vice President for Health Affairs at the University of Rochester. Dr. Young joined the Department of Health and Human Services as Assistant Surgeon General in 1984. Under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, Dr. Young served as commissioner of the FDA, Deputy Assistant Secretary and Director of the Office of Emergency Preparedness, and Director of the National Disaster Medical System. Dr. Young attended Union College, and holds a Doctor of Medicine from the University of New York, where he graduated cum laude, and a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University.
