Deirdre Y. Gillespie, M.D.

Deirdre Y. Gillespie, M.D., joined
the Company in 2006. From 2001 to 2005, she was President and Chief Executive Officer
of Oxxon Therapeutics, a privately held pharmaceutical company developing immunotherapies
for chronic infectious diseases and cancer. Previously, Dr. Gillespie was Chief Operating
Officer at Vical Inc, a publicly-traded gene delivery company focusing on immunotherapeutics
and cancer vaccines. Dr Gillespie was also Executive Vice President and Chief Business
Officer at Vical. Prior to joining Vical in 1998, she was Vice President Business
Development at 3-Dimensional Pharmaceuticals and held senior positions at DuPont Merck
Pharmaceutical Company, in both Europe and the United States, including Vice President,
Marketing. Prior to completing five years of clinical practice in London and Oxford, Dr.
Gillespie spent five years in clinical development with Sandoz Pharma AG (Novartis) in
the UK and Switzerland. Dr. Gillespie received her M.B.A. from the London Business School
and her M.D., and B.Sc. from London University.

Niv E. Caviar

Niv E. Caviar joined the Company in May 2007 as Executive Vice President, Chief Business and Financial Officer. Prior to that, Mr. Caviar worked at Allergan as Vice President from 2002 to 2007. At Allergan, Mr. Caviar served as Vice President of Marketing for the Medical Dermatology business where he led all operational and strategic marketing functions. Brands under his responsibility included Tazorac® and Botox® for medical dermatology indications. Previously, he served the same company as Vice President of Business Development, responsible for licensing, deal alliance formation, and negotiations for Allergan’s ophthalmology, dermatology and neurology business units. During this tenure, he led Allergan’s efforts to establish the existing Botox, Imitrex® and Amerge® Neurology Alliance with GlaxoSmithKline. From 2001 to 2002, Mr. Caviar was Vice President of Business Development and Marketing at Immusol Biopharmaceuticals. From 1999 to 2001, he was Director of Corporate Development at Affymetrix, Inc. Prior to Affymetrix, Mr. Caviar was a management consultant in Accenture's Pharmaceutical and Health Care Strategy practice. Mr. Caviar served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force where he worked as a Solid Rocket Motor Engineer and was a Project Manager for the U.S. Space Command on both the Titan IV Rocket and the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Motor Programs. Mr. Caviar received an M.B.A from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Matthew D. Linnik, Ph.D., joined the Company in 1998 as Director of Research and Development, was promoted to Vice
President of Research in February 1999, to Executive Vice President of Research in June 1999 and to
Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Vice President of Research in 2002.
Prior to joining the Company, from 1989 to 1998, Dr. Linnik served as Senior
Pharmacologist, Scientist, Research Scientist and Project Leader for Hoechst Marion Roussel,
formerly Marion Merrell Dow and Marion Laboratories, a publicly held pharmaceutical company.
From 1996 to 1998, he also served as Adjunct Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University
of Cincinnati School of Medicine. From 1986 to 1988, he served as Postdoctoral Fellow,
then Instructor, in the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital
and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Linnik holds a B.A. in Physiology from Southern Illinois University
and a Ph.D., in Physiology and Pharmacology from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

Michael Tansey, M.D., Ph.D., joined the Company in 2006 as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Tansey has more than 25 years of pharmaceutical industry experience where he has had increasing responsibility for all aspects of product development including global clinical development plans, clinical and medical operations, regulatory affairs, and post approval clinical marketing support. From 1996 until 2003, Dr. Tansey was Chief Medical Officer of Pharmacia and Upjohn and then Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Medical Development and a member of the Chief Executive's Operations Committee for Pharmacia Corporation. Prior to this, he worked at Hoechst AG, Rhone Poulenc Rorer, and Glaxo. After Pfizer's acquisition of Pharmacia, Dr. Tansey founded a consulting group, Competitive Drug Development LLC, and has since guided more than 12 companies in the U.S., Europe and Asia to optimize their development processes and plans. During this time, Dr. Tansey also worked part-time as Executive Director of Clinical Operations for a contract clinical research organization and as part-time CMO for NovaCardia, a biotechnology company. He is a member of the board of directors of invivodata Inc. and Vivometrics.

Josefina T. Elchico joined the Company in October 2004.
Prior to joining the Company, from 2002 to 2004, Ms. Elchico was a consultant with Jeff Yuen and
Associates, a privately held consulting firm, where she worked with biopharmaceutical companies
in implementing quality systems worldwide, validating facilities, processes and systems, conducting
audits, preparing for pre-approval inspections and supporting regulatory submissions. From 1996 to
2002, she was Vice President, Quality Assurance, and from 1991 to 1996 she was Director, Quality
Assurance, for the BioPharmaceutical Division at Chiron Corporation, a publicly held company with
businesses in biopharmaceuticals, vaccines and blood testing. From 1984 to 1991, Ms. Elchico
advanced to Director of Quality Assurance at Cetus Corporation (now part of Chiron Corporation).
From 1974 to 1984, she held various management positions at the Lancer Division of Sherwood
Medical, a subsidiary of American Home Products, a publicly held manufacturer and marketer of
health care and food products (now part of Wyeth). Ms. Elchico received her B.S. in Medical
Technology from the University of San Agustin, Philippines and completed an internship in
medical technology at St. Peter's General Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She is a
licensed Medical Technologist and a member of the Parenteral Drug Association and the
American Society for Clinical Pathologists.

Gail A. Sloan, CPA, joined the Company in 1996
as Assistant Controller, was promoted to Controller in 1997, to Senior Director of Finance in
2002 and to Vice President of Finance in 2004. She was appointed Secretary in 1999.
Prior to joining the Company, from 1993 to 1996, Ms. Sloan served as Assistant Controller
at Affymax Research Institute, a publicly held drug-discovery research company and a part
of the Glaxo Wellcome Group. From 1985 to 1993, she progressed to the position of
Audit Manager with Ernst & Young LLP. Ms. Sloan holds a B.S. in Business Administration
from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Lisa Koch Hulle, RAC, MTOPRA

Lisa Koch Hulle joined the Company in 2002 as Manager of Regulatory Affairs, was promoted to
Senior Manager in 2002, to Director in 2003, to Senior Director in 2005 and to Vice President
of Regulatory Affairs in 2007. Prior to joining
the Company, from 1991 to 2002, Ms. Koch Hulle held positions with Alliance Pharmaceutical Corporation,
a publicly held company developing contrast agents, a treatment for acute respiratory distress
syndrome, and a temporary oxygen carrier (“blood substitute”). At Alliance, Ms. Koch Hulle was
responsible for supporting and developing regulatory submissions, strategy, and communications
with domestic and international regulatory authorities. During her 11-year tenure at Alliance,
which saw the approval and commercialization of two imaging compounds Imagent® GI (perflubron)
and Imagent® US (perflexane lipid microspheres), Ms. Koch Hulle held positions of increasing
responsibility, all within the Regulatory Affairs Department. Ms. Koch Hulle received her
Regulatory Affairs Certification for the United States in 1998, her Certification for European
Regulatory Affairs in 2005, and achieved membership in the European Organization for
Professionals in Regulatory Affairs in 2004. Ms. Koch Hulle holds a Bachelors degree in
English from San Diego State University.

Luke Seikkula

Luke Seikkula joined the Company in 2001 as Manager of Materials
Management, was promoted to Senior Manager of Materials Management in 2002, to Director of Materials
in 2005, to Senior Director of Manufacturing in 2006 and to Vice President of Manufacturing in 2007.
Prior to joining the Company, from 1991
to 2001, Mr. Seikkula held positions within Abbott Laboratories, Hospital Products Division
(now Hospira), a publicly held company, most recently as Materials Manager of Abbott Ambulatory
Infusion Systems where he was responsible for production planning, purchasing, warehousing and
distribution functions. From 1987 to 1991, Mr. Seikkula held various positions of increasing
responsibility in the finance organization with Unisys Corporation, a publicly held company.
Mr. Seikkula holds a B.S. from Winona State University, and an M.B.A. from San Diego State University.

Peter Potgieter, MB.ChB., FFA.,MD

Peter Potgieter, M.D., joined the Company in 2007 as Vice President and Medical Director. Dr. Potgieter has more than 25 years of critical care & pulmonary medicine experience, which includes senior roles as Head of Department of Critical Care Medicine at University Cape Town and Groote Shuur Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa. Since 1998, Dr. Potgieter has held various roles as consultant and Medical Director for Purdue Pharma, Bayer Health Care, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Iveresk Research (formerly ClinTrials Research), and Molichem Inc., where he was responsible for the planning, safety surveillance, medical oversight and medical management of clinical trials for these organizations, completing Phase I thru IV. In addition, Dr. Potgieter was responsible for planning the clinical development of a number of compounds, and for tech successfully submission of 2 NDAs. Dr. Potgieter completed his medical training MB.ChB. and MD (PhD equiv.) at the University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa.

Andrew Wiseman, Ph.D.

Andrew Wiseman, Ph.D., one of the Company's original founders,
joined the Company in 1989 as Director of Business Development
and was promoted to Senior Director of Investor Relations in 1994.
From 1983 to 1989, Dr. Wiseman held
several positions with Quidel Corporation, a publicly held manufacturer of
diagnostic tests, including Manager of Business Development, Project Manager
in Diagnostic Research and Development and Senior Research Scientist.
Dr. Wiseman was an Assistant Professor at the Medical Biology Institute
and an Assistant Member at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation.
He received a B.S. in Zoology and a Ph.D. in Genetics from Duke University.

Vickie Motte joined the Company in 2006 as Senior Director of Human Resources. Before joining the Company, Ms. Motte was Director of Human Resources for CompassLearning, an education software company, Senior Manager, Human Resources for Invitrogen Corporation, a biotechnology company, and Manager, Human Resources for Quest Diagnostics Corporation and Nichols Institute, a clinical testing laboratory and medical device company. Previously, Ms. Motte was employed for 16 years with Allergan, Inc., a pharmaceutical company, where she held various Human Resource positions. Ms. Motte holds a BS/BA from the University of Phoenix and an MA in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University.

Craig R. Smith, M.D., joined the Company's board of directors in 2004 and currently serves as Chairman of the board of directors. Dr. Smith is currently the President of Williston Consulting LLC, a firm providing advisory services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. From 1993 to 2004, Dr. Smith served as the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Guilford Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a publicly held pharmaceutical company. He joined Guilford at its inception in 1993 and led its growth into a fully integrated pharmaceutical company with two marketed products and two products in Phase 3 clinical trials. From 1988 to 1992, Dr. Smith was Vice President of Clinical Research and from 1992 to 1993, Dr. Smith was Senior Vice President of Business and Market Development at Centocor, Inc., a publicly held biotechnology company. From 1975 to 1988, he served on the faculty of the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He also serves on the boards of the Maryland Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Greater Baltimore Committee and the Greater Baltimore High Tech Council. Dr. Smith is the Chair of the Advisory Council for the Institute of Basic Biomedical Sciences at Johns Hopkins University, a member of the Johns Hopkins Alliance for Science and a member of the board of directors of Adams Express Company, a publicly held closed-end equity investment company, Depomed, Inc., a publicly held specialty pharmaceutical company, Petroleum & Resources Corporation, a publicly held equity investment company specializing in energy and natural resources companies, Oxxon Therapeutics, a privately held company that focuses on immunotherapies to treat patients with chronic infectious diseases and cancer, and Excigen, Inc., a privately held company that focuses on gene therapy treatments. Dr. Smith holds an M.D., from the State University of New York at Buffalo and trained in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1972 to 1975.

Dr. Adams has been a director of the Company since
1991. Dr. Adams is the founder and Chairman Emeritus of
Genta, Inc., a publicly held biotechnology company in the
field of antisense technology, and, since September 1998,
has been Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
of Leucadia Technologies, a privately held company in the
field of medical devices. Before assuming the role of Chairman
Emeritus of Genta, Inc. in 1997, Dr. Adams served as Genta,
Inc.'s Chief Executive Officer. Before founding Genta in
1989, Dr. Adams founded Gen-Probe, Inc. in 1984 and served
as its Chief Executive Officer and Chairman until its acquisition
by Chugai Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. in 1989. Before founding
Gen-Probe and until 1984, Dr. Adams was Senior Vice President
of Research and Development at Hybritech. Eli Lilly and
Co. later acquired Hybritech in 1986. Dr. Adams has also
held management positions at Technicon Instruments and the
Hyland Division of Baxter Travenol, and served as a Director
of Biosite Diagnostics, Inc., a publicly held medical research
firm, from 1989 to 1998. In addition, Dr. Adams currently
serves as a Director of Invitrogen, Inc., a publicly held
company that develops, manufactures and markets research
tools in kit form and other research products, and XiFin
Inc. and Bio-Mems, both private companies. Dr. Adams holds
a Ph.D., in Biochemistry from the University of California,
at Riverside.

Robert A. Fildes, Ph.D.

Robert A. Fildes, Ph.D., has been a director of the
Company since 1991. Since January 1998, Dr. Fildes has served
as President of SB2, Inc., a privately held company which
licenses antibody technology. From June to December 1998,
Dr. Fildes served as Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic
Pharmaceuticals, a publicly held company in the field of
biotechnology. From 1993 until August 1997, Dr. Fildes was
the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Scotgen Biopharmaceuticals,
Inc., a privately held company in the field of human monoclonal
antibody technology. Scotgen Biopharmaceuticals filed for
Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection under the federal bankruptcy
laws in August of 1997. From 1990 to 1993, Dr. Fildes was
an independent consultant in the biopharmaceutical industry.
He was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Cetus
Corporation, a publicly held biotechnology company, from
1982 to 1990. From 1980 to 1982, Dr. Fildes was the President
of Biogen, Inc., a publicly held biopharmaceutical company,
and from 1975 to 1980, he was the Vice President of Operations
for the Industrial Division of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company.
Dr. Fildes is currently a director of Cytovax Biotechnologies,
Inc., a publicly held company that develops and commercializes
vaccines and therapeutic products for the prevention and
treatment of infectious diseases. Dr. Fildes holds a D.C.C.
degree in Microbial Biochemistry and a Ph.D., in Biochemical
Genetics from the University of London.

Deirdre Y. Gillespie, M.D., joined the Company in 2006. Stephen M. Martin has been a director of the Company
since 2000. He currently serves as CEO Partner of Hi Tech
Partners, LLC, a consulting firm for executive management
of early stage technology businesses. He also serves as
Managing Partner of Merritt Capital Services, a firm that
assists entrepreneurs in finding venture capital. From January
1998 until June 2001, Mr. Martin served as Vice President
of Venture Opportunities for CIBA Vision Corporation, a
Novartis company engaged in the research, manufacture and
sale of contact lenses, lens care products and ophthalmic
pharmaceuticals, which he founded in 1980. From January
1995 to January 1998, Mr. Martin served as President of
CIBA Vision Corporation USA and from October 1990 until
January 1998, he served as President of CIBA Vision Ophthalmics-US,
the ophthalmic pharmaceutical division of CIBA Vision Corporation.
Mr. Martin served as a director of CareLinc Corporation,
a privately held developer of clinical information management
systems, from December 1997 to May 2000. Mr. Martin holds
six issued U.S. patents for his inventions and a number
of European patents. Mr. Martin holds a B.A. degree from
Wake Forest University and attended the Woodrow Wilson College
of Law.

Martin Sutter

Martin Sutter is one of the two founding managing directors of Essex Woodlands Health Ventures. Educated in chemical engineering and finance, he has more than 25 years of management experience in operations, marketing, finance and venture capital. He began his career in management consulting with Peat Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in 1977 and moved to Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. ("MEDC"), now Devon Energy Corporation, a public company traded on the New York Stock Exchange, where he held management positions overseeing various operating units. In 1984, he founded and managed The Woodlands Venture Capital Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MEDC, and The Woodlands Venture Partners, an independent venture capital partnership formed in 1988. During his tenure with both organizations, he founded a number of successful healthcare companies originating from various institutions of the Texas Medical Center. In 1994, Mr. Sutter merged his venture practice with Essex Venture Partners to form Essex Woodlands. Essex Woodlands manages six venture capital limited partnerships with capital in excess of $1 billion. He currently serves on the board of directors of LifeCell Corporation, a public company traded on Nasdaq, MicroMed Cardiovascular, Inc., a company traded on the over-the-counter bulletin board, and the following private companies: BioForm Medical, Inc., Confluent Surgical, Inc., Elusys Therapeutics, Inc., and Rinat Neuroscience Corporation. Mr. Sutter holds a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Houston.

James N. Topper, M.D., Ph.D.

James N. Topper, M.D., Ph.D., is a general partner with Frazier Healthcare Ventures, having joined the firm in August 2003. Prior to joining Frazier Healthcare, he served as head of the cardiovascular research and development division of Millennium Pharmaceuticals and ran Millennium San Francisco (formerly COR Therapeutics). Prior to the merger of COR and Millennium in 2002, Dr. Topper served as the Vice President of Biology at COR and was responsible for managing all of its research activities beginning in 1999. Prior to joining COR, he served on the faculties of Harvard Medical School in 1997 and subsequently became an Assistant Professor of Medicine (cardiovascular) at Stanford University in July 1998. He continues to hold an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stanford University and as a Cardiology Consultant to the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Topper currently serves on the boards of Amicus Therapeutics, Inc., Arête Therapeutics, Inc., MacuSight, Inc. and Zelos Therapeutics, Inc., all of which are privately held companies. Dr. Topper holds a Doctor of Medicine and a Ph.D., in Biophysics from Stanford University School of Medicine.

Frank E. Young, M.D., Ph.D.

Frank E. Young, M.D., Ph.D., is a former commissioner of the FDA and has had over a 40-year career in medicine, academia and government. After numerous academic appointments, Dr. Young served as Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Professor of Microbiology, Pathology, Radiation Biology and Biophysics at the University of Rochester, New York. Subsequently, he became Dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Director of the Medical Center and Vice President for Health Affairs at the University of Rochester. Dr. Young joined the Department of Health and Human Services as Assistant Surgeon General in 1984. Under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, Dr. Young served as commissioner of the FDA, Deputy Assistant Secretary and Director of the Office of Emergency Preparedness, and Director of the National Disaster Medical System. Dr. Young attended Union College, and holds a Doctor of Medicine from the University of New York, where he graduated cum laude, and a Ph. D. from Case Western Reserve University.
